NAME: BLACK CANDLE

Black Candle, was born Ts'olo Mats'aba, in Maseru on the 25 th of February, nineteen eighty something. During his high school days at Leribe High School, there was a stage at school, and every morning before classes began, anybody who had a talent to display would get on stage. Lebesa Nkune aka the Prophet, the first poet that Black Candle encountered, would recite poetry. The Prophet shook something in Black Candle and that's where his dance with poetry began. He graduated from the University of Lesotho with a B.A. degree in 2008 and is currently working for the Ministry of Tourism at Sehlaba-thebe National Park, Qacha's nek, Lesotho.
Black Candle rose to fame during the 1998 catastrophes while the country was in turmoil and recited his first poem, “Peace and Justice” which gave him recognition, and joined BAM Promotions in 2009. He considers himself an artist because poetry is art and his favorite quotation of art is “ Art begins with resistance - at the point where resistance is overcome. No human masterpiece has ever been created without great labor”.
Black Candle says everything around him inspires him and thus he writes on different subjects. He says whilst in Sehlaba-thebe, he got inspired by the sounds of trickling waterfalls, chirping birds and buzzing bees! He penned down:
