NAME: RUMO LA KOEBE
GENRE: SEHOU (SOTHO HIP HOP)

In loose translation, “two-edged sword”, RUMO LA KOEBE is just a regular Letebele guy who was born in the village known as Matebeleng, Hamaqotoane in the district of Berea in the eastern part of Lesotho.
Born Jabu Matolo, he started doing music in the year 1997 when he was in Form A at Leribe High School. He was inspired by the kwaito music that filled his campus, and the likes of Steve Kekana, whose records formed part of his mom's music collecton. Rumo, as he is affectionately called, says growing up listening to Steve Kekane's music assisted him in realizing his then hidden music talent.
On the Leribe High School campus, he discovered T'solo Mats'aba aka Black Candle (a poet of BAM Promotions) with whom they began rehearsing together. Rumo is somewhat of a veteran having worked with numerous popular names, the likes of recording artist Dunamis and producer Metal Jacket.
Jabu Matolo is quoted as saying, “Hip pop has been done before, Gospel, Famo and so has Kwaito. So I was looking for something to define me, something I can call my own, and something that is more challenging. People are looking for some fresh sound after all.” This is what is behind the different and new sound “Sehou” music, a hip hop sound of it's own kind, which is the trademark of Rumo, as he is affectionately called.
The former English Language and General Science Primary School teacher infuses Sesotho poems which carry deep metaphors and idioms into a well-blended cocktail of sound into his debut album, “Ke Nako”.
