MPHO RACHEL SEFALI known as ‘Naleli ea Thaba' or ‘The Kingdom Star' was born on May 18 1986 at Ntlholohetsane in Mokhotlong, Lesotho. She was raised in Maseru, where she received her primary education from Unity English Medium School, and her secondary education from Lesotho High School. She then enrolled for the Bachelor of Laws Program at the National University of Lesotho. This program was however not completed as her poetic aspiration led her into the Faculty of Humanities, where she majored in English Language and Literature. Since her primary and High School days Mpho had been writing and performing her poetry at small gatherings, where she was well cherished.
In February 2006, Mpho Sefali published and launched her first poetry anthology ‘Your Spring Has Come' which consisted of 41 poems in English. The 2000 copies volume was published by the National University of Lesotho and Printed by the Morija Printing Works. The anthology was so well received nationally and internationally that she could not help it but go on writing. She currently has poems enough to publish her second anthology which will be entitled ‘In the Grip of Passion'. She is currently working on It.
After publishing ‘Your Spring has Come' Mpho received invitations to present her work at various functions nationally and internationally. In March 2008 Mpho recorded a 6 track Preliminary Poetry CD with the 2007 SAMA Award Winning Themba Mkh'ize. Mpho recites her poetry in English, Sesotho as well as code-switching between the two languages. She also speaks German and is working on some of her poems being converted to the German language.
Mpho Sefali is also the presenter of the a show on Lesotho Television ‘Arts Blossom' .
Apart from writing, Mpho plays Table Tennis and Bad Minton. She is currently an artist of BAM Promotions and the Public Relations Coordinator of the same company, and is working on starting to record her poetry.
