MBAXANGA NAME: NKESI & THE RAINBOW QUEENS
.
Moorosana Nkesi a 56 year old male is the founder of the group, Nkesi and the Rainbow Queens. He is married to one woman ‘Mamahlohonolo Anna Nkesi and they have been blessed with two children.
Ntate Nkesi started music performances in primary school in 1970. Growing up, Mpaqanga music was his favourite music and watching Mahlathini of Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, he would tell himself that that will be him someday. As history will tell, he is living that dream today!
Ntate Nkesi was raised by his wonderful parents who, despite struggling financially, educated him on how to counter life and its challenges. In 1975 Nkesi joined the Police Mobile Unit now called the Lesotho Defense Force, and still continued his music journey, inspired by Mr. Nkabinde and Mahotella Queens.
Ntate Nkesi's first album was a Sqathamia offering in 1994 with Innate Group and then in 2006 he released another album as Nkesi & Immortal Gospel Sound.
Then in 2010, he released another album as Nkesi & Rainbow Queens titled, “Bana ke ba Mang”. It is a 12 track album with “Sephooko” and “Ntata Bana” being very popular. According to a music review in FINITE Magazine, “This CD tells a story of a typical African way of living, it fuses the beautiful instruments with a taste of Basotho culture and everyday issues that surrounds our lives.”
Nkesi & Rainbow Queens makes the Basotho nation so proud that The Prime Minister of Lesotho is quoted as saying, “Even if Mahlathini rests in peace, I have my own Mahlathini here in Lesotho!” |
